What is Image to Dot Art Conversion?

This tool converts any image into Unicode braille text art. Braille characters (U+2800–U+28FF) each contain a 2×4 grid of dots, making them ideal for representing images as text. The generator processes your image entirely in your browser — nothing is uploaded to any server.

The result is a block of text characters that visually resembles your original image. You can copy and paste this text into Discord, Twitter, Reddit, or any platform that supports Unicode.

How to Use the Generator

  1. Upload an image by clicking "Choose Image" or dragging a file onto the page.
  2. The generator will automatically produce a braille text version of your image.
  3. Adjust the settings to fine-tune the output:
    • Width — Controls the resolution. Higher values produce more detailed but wider output.
    • Threshold — Adjusts the brightness cutoff between black and white dots.
    • Dither — Enables Floyd-Steinberg dithering for smoother gradients (great for photos).
    • Invert — Swaps black and white dots.
  4. Click "Copy Output" to copy the result, or "Open in Dot Art Editor" to refine it by hand.

Choosing the Right Settings

  • For photographs and images with gradients, enable Dither for smoother shading.
  • For logos, icons, and line drawings, disable Dither and adjust the Threshold for clean edges.
  • Use a width of 40–60 characters for Discord messages. Wider art may wrap and look distorted.
  • Try the Invert option if your image has a dark background.

For the best source images, try using simple, high-contrast pictures. AI-generated flat-style icons work particularly well.
